Thanks, tatters - that's given me a little stake in the contest.
I found some of the clues quite tricky but enjoyed the challenge.

It was ok but, as usual, some parsing is way over my head. 40a for example. Neat finish I guess but I don't know whether the cells at 26 should have 1 or 2 letters. Will probably become clear over the weekend. Cheers

It took a while for the penny to drop, but when it did all the grid entries made total sense. Thanks Stick Insect.

I think there's some waiting time before we can complete the grid correctly, tatters - and if (for some reason) that should drag on too long we'll have to guess. I've already taken the latter option, and I'm sticking with it - right or wrong.
