The fact that the crossword was so easy is what made me wonder if there was something else we had to do. Something related to those down clues.

I've hit a snag - I've got 31d beginning with O (a word inside "asteroid" reversed/"rising" (minus the S) - but the last letter of 29a ia an E which is the first letter of 31d?

31 D definitely begins with E. It's the mineral, reversed, with the last letter being an S - the whole answer is the asteroid.

Thanks Malone, I'd assumed it was "ore(s)" (hidden inside asteroid and also a source of minerals) but I've got it now plus 39a makes much more sense.

Also, what has 47a got to do with Pluto?
