Thanks Buddy. I now have the 4 names, a clue and a location related to the down clue names. Just got to find the 5th name.
I still haven't figured out 1d despite knowing the missing letter, can't parse it apart from adds up. Starfish??

Term in this case means end, as in final letter of starfish.

Thanks Loge. I think I'm done. What an odd mix of topics between the across and down names! I get the link via the puzzle title but is that all? I can't help feeling I'm missing something, 26 cells shaded (6, 13, 7) check. All relating to the across names. Then the downs are all a bit 'Here's Johnny!' I half expected the hotel to be called the A.....e but no it's the O......k.
Ah well.

Granama1, if you know the book or have seen the film, you may remember that the “second down name” kept saying a certain word which, when he saw it in a mirror, is the hint in the top row!
