Xwordfan, isn't the 'o' in realo one of the extra letters?

I have one final parsing to work out. 38a 'One without a date...,' has me stumped. I'm assuming the last letter is one of the ten omitted from the wordplay and 'in' could arise from the clue but....

Ah. One other is puzzling me 10d, 'Very high tone dresser' Got the 'v' and probably 'tone' but high? The answer is reasonably obvious but the parsing isn't and I assume it's a straight clue.

Granama1, the fourth letter of the answer to 10d is one of the ten omitted letters. And in 38a if you look up the second and third letters of the answer you should find a Latin abbreviation. The next three reversed are the egg. The last letter is indeed another of the ten omitted

I think I now have 10d but it means I misparsed 3d! So just 38a to go.

Thanks Quisling. The reversed egg takes me back to childhood and the visits to school by the *** nurse! I bogged down with'o' or 'ovum' for egg.
This one can now be put away.

I’m all done on this, nice eclectic subject...have been there several times, without absorbing the name at all.
Just one query. The title of the work includes an F near the beginning. Where does that come from! I’ve seen a few varying theories on 15a, none suggesting an F.

15 across is REALO + L(ake) gathering, i.e. around, A(ccepted) followed by E (250). The O is the extra letter which contributes to the title. There's no early F in the title - only in the second and last words.

I think the only F in the title comes from 5d.

Sorry! Two Fs - the first one in 5d, the second in 29d.
