The penultimate word "I" in the first clue is redundant isn't it, if the belief is a 5-letter palindrome? The only way it can possibly contribute is if it refers to the setter himself, but that seems a bit of a stretch.

Re 1, that's what I thought too Loge, must be a self-reference. Just about getting away with it, I think.
