Just can't parse 13a.
It's an obvious five letter word for a drunk.
But I can't see the solution.

If you read it backwards/"rejected" you get what a "drunk" might have to do to a houseplant.

I really enjoyed this puzzle, unlike some recent Prize crosswords. I made a good start and just got hung up on 22ac because I had plumped for the wrong horny creature as the answer to 20dn. Looking at the forum set me straight and finally put me out of my misery. Thanks to all for the many useful hints provided in previous weeks when I have been close to quitting. My COD was probably 1dn just for the political reference.

This is an anagram of "flags British deal" minus all the a's - is a bit tricky because it says"as" instead of a's.

Ganda, I didn't do the puzzle, but looked at the clue. I think you take all the 'a's out of 'flags a British deal' - indicated by the 'not as' - and anagram it.

Finished this enjoyable crossword in my plodding way a couple of days ago but am bothered about not being able to parse 23a . Can see 'east' as an anagram in the word but nothing more. Please give me some piece of mind before I attempt next Saturday's puzzle.
