Good morning. Struggled to complete grid and now totally flummoxed by the 9 cells to highlight.
I assume they must run North to South, due to the nature of the second side of the equivalency.
Could someone point me towards it please ?

Unless I'm overthinking it and it starts at 3 down and runs North South ?

I'm all done except for making sense of the top row and parsing 28d. Hints appreciated.

Some of you are a lot brighter than I am. I have an almost complete grid and the source, but none of the grey entries bears any resemblance to any of the characters. Do I have to download the entire thing?

No, Cockie. You just need examples of the 2 things. The first examples go across. The second go down with a final cryptic alteration.

You don't need characters, cockle, more just general stuff. The Across entries are complete, are examples of one word in the statement and are slightly easier. There's a significant word in the quotation, showing what is necessary for the Down entries. Hope this helps.
