kirky - in 23 your last letter is wrong.

Hi

Five left in the bottom LH corner.

The annoying one is 13d. I have what looks to be the right but unaltered answer - it has a religious connection. But I can't see the alternative which I'm assuming is a market garden. Any hints?

you need to change the 2nd and 3rd letter, pp

I must have my original answer wrong. My third letter in that is an A, which is the same as in my 16a answer.

Got 13d now, thanks. A bit obscure. Aso changed 16a. 24a the last one standing.

PP. The measure goes before "the French", and the definition is the last two words after the usual kind of substitution.

After the first few entries, I guessed the word and worked backwards to the parsing with almost every clue.
I'm still not sure of the original for 21a.

You probably have the "nerve" and "5 out" bit. This should be inserted into the "back pull" part.

just my point, mattrom. No point in taxing oneself over the wordplay if you're sure of the definition. 21 I think is nerve in a word for pull backwards minus the v.
