I enjoyed this one and yesterday's prize as for the First Time Ever I was able to complete both without coming onto the forum for hints and help! I don't expect that to happen often (or even ever again...) but a good feeling for now. My COD 4D because it made me smile. LOI 8D and took a while to parse. Really appreciate the help you all offer, having lurked for quite a while before I started asking.

I’ve just seen that last week’s TUSK/TEETH debate is in full flow over on 225

May I 1d for a 16d of help to parse 23a. I am 25a sure, 27a, that I will feel like a right 26a with the 3d.

I also enjoyed this one, particularly 4d and 26a.
But for the life of me I can’t finish my last clue - 2d.
I have a-r-s-
Can someone give me a hint?

Hi Ruby, I’m afraid your R is wrong. You’re looking for a former tennis star.

Your R is wrong. It's a person's name

2 letters added (from point) would give "vacuously"

Thanks!

Hard but interesting. I liked 8d -- made me smile. Can't get 5a: ?s?r?e --working with American on island, heading west(6)

Also 26a: Greek character, politician, heartless tiny fool. (6) n?m?t?

Thanks
