This is, IMHO, one of the best Everyman's we've had for a long, long while.

It has a wide an inventive range of clues, with some well hidden and devious definitions, and there's even a clue who's answer is the name of a valued member of the Forum (though not this thread).

COD there were many great clues, 4d and 13a either of which could have been COD on another occasion, but I've gone with 7d - at first reading it looks like there's an indicator word missing - but look closely šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰

It's been great to see so many new contributors to the Forum in recent weeks. Please feel free to ask for a hint if you get stuck, or provide one if you can, or just leave a comment giving your thoughts on the crossword.

Thanks to Everyman for a thoroughly enjoyable puzzle.

Stay safe:-)

Morning all,
I agree Brendan that was a particularly good Everyman. Enjoyed the central clues and as you mentioned 7d did have me scratching my head until I saw it. The customary east end reference crept in and a connection between two clues that reminds me of a 70s kids program.
All in all rather good.

Yes, a good puzzle. But I had to look up the names in 8d, 13a and 3d. Yes, I donā€™t see 20d in this thread often.

Yes, most enjoyable. I got 7d soon enough (my COD too) but last one in was 8d, not helped by taking an age to see 11ac, weird what can stump the brain when complexity elsewhere sometimes flies in.

Iā€™d never heard of 20d, what a great one for scrabble!

My COD is 3d as he is my favourite surrealist and there is multilayered word play. I had to look up 2d. I expect for some the reverse is true.

sorry, i'm going to differ. i found this hard - much harder than yesterday's guardian "prize", and very loose in places. 8d is an awful clue, and echoes 3d - why?

not finished. i can find only one word to fit 11a, but can't see what it's got to do with the clue (except being a partial anagram of one of the words). any pointers?

Chrise 11ac is another word for ā€œunsettledā€ in the accountancy sense...

Hi Chris, I also found 11a a little irksome. Definition is unsettled, as in unpaid, and I can only assume that ā€˜abruptlyā€™ is an instruction to ignore the last letter of the word preceding it which is the anagram, but Iā€™ve never seen that used before.
8d follows the same structure as the EDDY clue from two weeks ago, Everyman seems to like it

Nice crossword - even if the answer to 12A is the same as one from last weekā€™s Everyman.
