I see 35 but what is the wordplay for 18a, is it an anagram "several" minus the R, if so where is the instruction to remove the R? and if the anagram indicator is "bananas" why is "take out" in the there?

R = Recipe, Latin for take. So "take out" = remove the R.

The most vivid red I could find:-)

I had to look him up on Google and got interested reading the story, so was able to find out about his red shirt and also the colour of the .....

Great puzzle.

I agree with your comments about this brilliant puzzle.

We are now used to finding that bit extra, and so I have highlighted a ninth cell in a rather pale colour. Very neat that the initial letter is just displaced from the eight by one cell.

Very nice thematic itle also!

Ahhh! That's a great theory Jigjag,

I wondered why the the guy's initial letter was so close to the eight - I really hope it's correct, it would make a fantastic final touch:-)
