I’ve come very late to this - various DIY jobs in lockdown. In spite of hints, I still can’t get 1a. I have PER????NESS, but can’t think of a word that fits. All other clues solved, though I echo others comments about intractability. Have worked out most of the message so hope I can now progress to next stage!

I need a hint (or an answer) for 44 across and 10 down. Hours of thinking aren't getting me anywhere with these two.

I also might have 26 across wrong, as I have an issue with the omitted letter (which I think is U) clashing with the additional letter in 22 down (which I think is Z).

Cripes! There'll be a new puzzle tomorrow - and I still haven't finished this one.

As for 26, I had Buru. I hate country codes!
