Thanks again, tatters - I enjoyed this one very much, it's a real novelty! I'm wondering where the def is for one of the thematic elements... but that might fall with a bit more research.

I got a full grid but a couple that I can't parse. Having the usual trouble finding all the missing words. My knowledge of this mariner is severely restricted and the four pertinent words are not exactly leaping out at me. Why can't they stick to sport?

Is it for 5a drxx? I pondered with that one until I did the research and discovered it was an &lit.

What's puzzling me is why are those 5 entries unclued? Is there any (thematic) point to that? I'm struggling to see it...

...but I can't see any link between the 4, hellbent - other than the asterisks (although they look quite anagram-friendly...).
