Possible misprint in definition
21a With no space for Ed to clothe dead man (4) ?O??
34a Persistently annoy retired fellow - angers's bottled up (4) ?NA?
23d No longer fear endless affliction (4) NI?? ....could be nigh? but i have Y as a possible 3rd letter ?

34 is a hidden word in the clue (reversed)

I'm also struggling with the other two!

23 down - opposite of day can mean affliction. Suggested answer looks right to me..

34 across is a reverse hidden
23 down - you've got the right answer (there's no Y)

21 across - misprint is first letter of dead. You need a word meaning clothe minus the two letter printing space.

17. I think this is a four-letter word for 'settled', with the A removed, never active, and reversed. That would be defined by the first word if you change it...
