Re 3d. Perhaps it means the first letter of 'Sky', not the central one?

But that's my point Mattrom, it's "introduction to S(ky)" instead of K - but K or S isn't the central/hub letter, it's the 4th in a six letter word.

mattrom, I think the 'tea' in 6ac is a South American brew made from holly, not a back formation from Cockney rhyming slang (although it's got me wondering if they're somehow connected).
