What an idiot I am! I've got 12a so that just leaves 17a - massive hints please:-)

17a As Malone has said, isn't an anagram of 'metal'. I Googled 'another word for typewriter roller' to get it.
12a. The fish is ID, often comes up in crosswords.

Thanks Mattrom, post 29 said it was an anagram and Malone's post 30 said "isn't "metal" anagrammed" - which I took to mean, albeit mistakenly, to imply it was - as in "isn't the answer an anagram"?

Anyway, thanks for all your help Mattrom - it was clearly all Malone's fault - I'm going to have to have stern talk with that young lady:-)

Sunday's Azed seemed like a picnic after some of the other puzzles.

You're right about that Mattrom,but I was just trying to shift the blame, as one does, to a completely innocent bystander:-)

I made a start on Azed 2500 but put it aside to do the IQ and, now that's done, I'll begin the EV....and the the WSJ...and....

Thanks, Brendan. No, my ears weren't burning, but there was a minute or two of apprehension while I re-read the posts! Sometimes a hint can be ambiguous, perhaps triggered off by the intention not to give too much away.

The unclued entries are all (fourth word of phrase spelled out by omitted letters). But that phrase says that they are NOT. So am I missing some final touch - are we meant to change them in some way?

Nelson, I didn't read it like that. The ?????? are not ?????, but the unclued entries ARE. I think the title Unlike The Rest helps there. The phrase doesn't say they (the unclued entries) are not, it says the ????????????? 'are not'.
