I hope everyone is well and bearing up with this self isolation. It certainly helps to have some enjoyable puzzles to help keep us occupied and, to that end, this Everyman does not disappoint.

Much like yesterday's in Guardian Prize, the setter has used the full gamut of cluing techniques. There are anagrams, but far fewer than usual, hidden clues, charades, initial letters and more.

To say there was a wide range of cultural figures would be an understatement!

There's an American rock ban and what they're famous for! A contemporary comedy creation, a work by a major composer, a major literary figure, a Greek muse and a character from a Shakespeare play - and that's not to mention a Hindu God becoming a Jewish patriarch!

I think it's safe to say this will test your knowledge of both high and....'not so high' culture.

I know that we'll all be looking for welcome distractions in these coming weeks and months and this, without a shadow of a doubt, fits the bill perfectly.

Many thanks to the Everyman setter.

Yes, a straightforward and fun puzzle, with a full gamut of cluing techniques, just as you said.

Hi Mathi,

I'm sure this will be very popular among the Everyman regulars. As you say, it's not overly difficult but it contains virtually every type of clue.

Just what the doctor ordered:-)

Hi Brendan
Make that two Shakespearean characters! Loved 1A -- great clue. The only one that's got me stumped is 17D. I often find this setter's 'Spoonerism' clues a bit tortuous, but I can't parse this one at all, even though the answer is obvious. Any illumination gratefully received ... although maybe later in the day so as not to spoil the fun for everyone else. Keep safe IN there everyone.

Apologies -- I still had an answer from the weekend quiz (done before the crossword) swirling around my head!!! There's only one Shakespearean in here!

Hebrews abbreviated to three letters inside a four letter synonym for ratted out/informed. Definition is affair. Your letters are correct.

17d: When the first letter of the second word is swapped with the very first letter, it kind of sounds like I (here the setter) dressed (along with the inside letter k). Not a perfect one though.

Could someone please give me a hint for 24ac? No doubt it's blindingly obvious, but I just can't see it!
