Today's puzzle might not have been tough enough for Forum members to need help, but it was tough enough to be very enjoyable! I thought it was a well-crafted puzzle, with some good clues and some well-hidden 'sequences'. I hope others enjoyed it.

The most enjoyable, for me, for quite some time.
I always rate a puzzle by how elegant it is, rather than how hard.
I think this one was flawless at every level - including having me searching for John Brown's body for a little while.

Ginge and Nelson - great to hear that you both enjoyed the puzzle. Nelson, that's a good point about the elegance in puzzles, that's sometimes overlooked. I'd enjoyed the solving very much and was delighted with my filled grid - only then did I remember the final, extra bit. Fortunately that wasn't too tricky and I got the highlighting done pretty quickly.

Yes malone. In keeping, i would only add:
Gratias agamus Domino Deo nostro.

Should that be 'agimus'?
Only asking as someone not half way through it yet, and envious of the amazing solving skills I see on this site.

Daven, my Latin is very rusty, but a quick Google seemed to confirm the 'agamus'.

It doesn't matter how quickly you solve a puzzle if you're enjoying doing it! I like getting through things quite quickly, but that's my temperament rather than any degree of skill.

Hi Malone, do you mind me asking if you solved this in the Independent newspaper, or is there an interactive online version?

Brendan, it's not the Independent now - the Inquisitor is in the 'i'. I get the paper version on a Saturday morning, but I think subscribers can get it online on Friday nights (as the Times/Listener subscribers can do). I think subscribing is the only way to get an online version - I don't know about the interactive aspect.

Thanks Malone, I'll get the newspaper next Saturday and give it a try. It seems very popular and well thought of.
