It looks like "Aver" should be "Over" with F(o)O(o) around I + NIT.

Thank you. I should have got that. Now to try and work out who is escaping 24 across - which I found much earlier - as I don’t think I have all the necessary letters. A big push might help if anyone out there has the denouement worked out. And wishes to help of course.

Slugabed, it's always good to give the clues. There are lots of good/helpful solvers on here, but they don't all have a copy.

7 D. The answer to the clue is 5 letters - a usual 'nothing' inside the much-used 'poet'. The misprint is in the last word of the clue. The A you've put at the start of the entry is correct, the rest looks a little mangled.

23 D. Your S, W and A are wrong.

14 . You need a four-letter word for excited, enthusiastic then add the first letters (faces) of the words mentioned.
