Jogamel, the Z is wrong - the game's Australian. The correct first letter, a slightly sneaky one until you read the clue closely, lead me to the last letter (where your O is also wrong, sorry!).

Sunray, 10 is a very common crossword 'blunder'. 'Occasionally (using letters)' in 'firm control' gives the last three letters. The first two come from a usual 'revolutionary' (not Che) going up (rising), with the end omitted.

8 A. I got from Chambers as I had most of the letters. The definition is the first three words.
