Nice one, Mattrom! Cheers, Malcolm, and thanks for the mention. I think you're being too modest. I'm sure you'll be in the chair again soon. Regarding the clip, I should like to share the following, which I think I saw on a blackboard (or am I supposed to say "a board of colour"?) when I was at school.

Un petit, d'un petit, c'est un des vole

Thanks for educating me, skyewalker.
I had no idea what the French sentence meant.

So I looked it up and found this:

Hi Mattrom

You were asking why choose SALIENT. No particular reason except that it seemed to be full of possibilities, it having 7 easy ( and different ) letters. I don't remember seeing a clue for it, though I'm sure it's been done a lot. It turns up in Scrabble quite a lot, too !

By the way, sorry if anyone was offended by the language in the video clip. I'd forgotten there was so much of the F word.

I mentioned this on a separate thread, but have a look at the Cryptic Crossword Society on Facebook if you want to do more solving. There we just post individual clues rather than whole puzzles, but there are some very bright sparks in the group.

Sunray @42. Thanks for that. I should have realised it wasn't an original jotting from my teacher!

SW
You have reminded of the French trawler captain who was irritated that his crewman hadn't turned up on time. He tracked him down to a bar and shouted at him
"A l'eau, c'est l'heure!"
