Hi Malone, I had the first letter via 1a but hadn't come across the term in Azeds or others. Only started on The Listener (via The Times) recently. I was also slightly diverted by the use of abolish but that was just my rather narrow view, it is, of course perfectly correct. I may see if I can download some old puzzles just to 'get my eye in' with this style. I find I have to tune into different compiling styles. Oh, I also convinced myself before getting going that it was about cricket despite the spelling of 'Howsat' and that it was probably John Wisden. That didn't last long!

I know everyone else will have moved on but I've made a late start (and finish) this week. Just wanted to say that in addition to the 21 thematic entries found by buzzb and crates I have 33A - a straight definition of the theme word. So there is a majority, but only just.

Agree: 33A is associated just like 1D and 9A by the figurative meaning not literal colour. And might one be allowed 11A on the grounds of jeans??
