I have not parsed 37a. But it begins with Z and ends in I.

12d is an anagram with a foreign phrase. It begins with T???? and is 3,2.

I've posted my entry and, as I feared would happen all along, I have taken the wrong option, when there really shouldn't have been any options. It should always be unequivocal. I've gone with simply removing the last two letters of the song title from the unclued entries, thus leaving 3 blank cells in my final grid, whereas it now seems I should have just erased the unclued entries apart from where they cross the song title and the two references. Very VERY annoying! Editor, if you are reading this, please take note! Checkers really ought to be instructed to accept both versions.

If you erase the unclued entries, what evidence is there to show that you knew what they were?
