It all went in surprisingly easily, but I have question marks against several.

13a He or she with the Guardian tormented 24 (4)
How does "he or she" give the first two letters?

17a Self-styled reference, lexicon, dictionary and so forth (9)
If this is supposed to be a "sounds like", it's not even close! Otherwise it's just a non-cryptic definition.

26a Key in her top type (6)
If the definition is "top type", doesn't the solution need another word?

27a City couples, happily married, on the telly at last (6)
There's only one sensible answer, but, apart from the last letter, I have no idea of the parsing.

1d She opened a box of letters from Dad? (7)
Where do the 5th and 6th letters of the solution come from?

Any hints on these points, please?

ChrisE, for 27, 'at last' gives the usual crossword instruction.

Thanks jack - never heard of that one!
Thanks malone
Do I need to read the solution backwards, then? There's no indicator

Chris, like you, there are several that I can't fully parse but I thought 1,4 was a beauty - concise and elegant. All very enjoyable.

26a is OK for me. If you put the solution before 'top' it gives a type of something or other.
