Tyke that was Boon . . and we don't really count him as an Australian, as he was from Tasmania

Though after that 'record' we have been reconsidering

He also holds another record . .

Believe it or not, he was taller sitting down, than standing up

My favourite 'Ronny' memory is the 'Mondegreen' "Far Canal"

Thanks Hannah ... I managed to find this nice article which covers it!

AUSTRALIAN cricket great Doug Walters has lifted the lid on the legendary drinking record that has been shared across cricket tragics for decades.
Much loved Tasmanian batsman David Boon is said to have claimed the record of 52 beers consumed on Australia’s plane trip to London ahead of the 1989 Ashes series.

Rod Marsh had originally broke Walters’ record, setting the bar at 51 cans, in an effort that saw the wicketkeeper carried off the plane. Legend has it that Boony was stuck on 49 cans as the plane approached Heathrow Airport, until the pilot was told to make a couple of loops to ensure the record was broken.

Doug would have known . .

Not sure, as an infrequent flyer, that I can endorse the practice of drunken cricketers telling sober pilots how to fly aeroplanes

I see that officials at Englands match today include Robert Robinson and Richard Richardson. Pity Neville Neville was not available.

Dear old Brian Johnstone waited years before getting the opportunity, on Test Match Special, to say `The bowler`s Holding the batsman`s Willey`

This was literally true because Michael Holding was the bowler and Peter Willey was the batsman!

I wondered about the Robert Robinson - it turns out to be ex Notts & England batsman better known as Tim - not sure why he and Richie were referred to by their `Sunday` names - unless they didn`t want to be identified - more probably the writer didn`t know who they were.
