Dylan, putting the thematic four letter word into that one cell gives two across answers ending there, two across answers starting there, two down answers ending there and two down answers starting there. Hope that helps! Happy Easter everyone.

Joining ski bum in Quibble Corner, when TREEN is used as a noun, it is already plural: adding S is nonsensical.

durban - Chambers has - 'n (usu pl) small articles made of wood' which suggests 'treens' is the usual spelling.
I agree with your 'symmetry' comment - and you'd expect Sabre and Phi to think of that.

drxx - well,maybe….but my authority was the numerous telly antique shows that all too often engage my attention. These often feature treen, along with china, "kitchenalia", fine art, "militaria", glass, etc, and I've never heard treenS mentioned any more than one of the others with an S added. Now I need to return to the gardenalia!

I mean the Treens whinge
