No need to apologise malone, I have been and no doubt will continue to be called a lot worse.

Alwayspuzzled, I had no trouble dealing with/treating the thematic entries - it was only the final step that had me puzzled for a bit.

Sorry, ginge, but I don't understand your message at all, except that the 17 cells to be highlighted are 10 and 7. I've got LOGAN in the ninth row but I cannot find any hyphen associated with that, unless you mean STONE just underneath it.

Orson, those two word(hyphenated word as well) is the first part of the instruction... then you need the last word in the instruction.

I see it now, malone, thanks. That 7-letter word was not in a straight line but in a suitable shape.

I wonder what the point was of making this a jigsaw type puzzle.

Glad you got there, Orson. I appreciated your original query as I'd put this puzzle aside after being baffled by the instructions!

Orson

Thanks for you answer to my earlier question. A second question please - what do you mean by "jigsaw type puzzle"? I have not got very far with this.

I mean you have to work out for yourself where the answers go, grunge. I still don't know why this way of doing things has been used for this puzzle, unless it's just to add an extra layer of difficulty. If you're struggling ask tomorrow and I can give hints, but I'm retiring for the night now. Regards, Orson.

My position with this puzzle is that I finished it - after quite some chins-stroking - and have a complete and I think correctly filled grid.

Unfortunately - or fortunately - I figured out how the special clues needed to be combobulated prior to entry without having to piece together the initial letters of the extra words...life is too short to want to complete that challenge.

And as for the 10, 7 in the grid - I haven't really tried - well, having completed the grid I think I'd rather be out moving plants around the garden which seems to be what everyone else on this site is doing!

I thought it was a rather enjoyable puzzle save for the above reservations.
