Are grid entries real words?

...I don't know what is meant to give the central E in the wordplay, but it's needed to provide the answer and the entry.

I think there might be one real word in the final grid sunray.

...or two in fact.

correction marca - the musical note is 3 letters (hyphenated) + O inside ELITE + S

That will be tricky.
You have to treat the answers before knowing who the author is and what has to be done.

I have the answer to 7d , 10 letters but don't know what to apply to reduce it to 7.

I have a guess based on the title but it does not help with 7d.

sunray - I looked at the letters crosschecking across/down entries and noticed that only a few letters were omitted each time (the same few letters repeatedly) with the puzzle's title that was enough to give me the book title.
