I have H?RSA.
Seems like anagram of HAS containing NOR, so Horsa. With N extra.

39d. Young fish slowing down beneath bridge (4)?RIT.
May be Brit but parsing?

For the instruction I have first three words and the last word.
Missing 12 in the middle.

I didn't want to ask this too early as it might be a spoiler - but are the instructions telling us to bump off one more than is possible?
(Or in other words, does the total add up to eight?)

Nelson, in a word - yes! I think it was a neat little twist, requiring the second word of the instructions rather than just assuming it was solely the title characters.
