Thank you ginge. I finally got there! After getting 11a I went back over the extras again and indeed found that I had the wrong word identified in 27d (where I thought there were 3 plausible candidates). Nice puzzle.

Yes, very sorry if I confused anyone. I should have written four ninths in my original post at #2.

Thanks Drxx. I have found my W adverb. However I still have a problem with Issue being a definition of Turn. In what sense is Turn used here?

Hi, Moffat,

Chambers gives “to issue” as the eighth definition of “turn”, in a list that takes up half a column, but I’d be hard-pressed to use “turn” in a relevant sense in a sentence. Under “issue”, Chambers gives “to turn out, result, terminate”, which isn’t quite the same.

I found “turn” by looking under the word “issue” in Bradford, but this doesn’t give “issue” under the word “turn”.

Hi Moffat, it’s a homophone of Tern. Entry no 2 in the BRB says ‘a prize for drawing 3 winning numbers’. No, me neither....

I thought this was very good. On the easy side but well put together and a neat theme. Nice start to the year.

Can’t parse 25d, am assuming the unch is an ‘s’. Anyone help me?

Thanks
