1a - Anagram ('given a shake') of CARTS inside IT. Missing letter: K

7d - Anagram ('vagrant') of WAS, followed by a 3-letter word for 'fool' (or a general derogatory term for a person). Solution is (4,2).

Vagrant as anagram indicator is new to me.

It's one that Azed uses every now and then. 'Ruffian' is a similar example of an adjective which can masquerade in the surface reading as a more familiar noun.

I have all 13 letters but have yet to make a phrase out of them. I still have no solution to 5 down which I don't really understand. Does "facing to rear" mean the last letter of a solution to "made progress" has been moved to the front? And I do not have a real word solution to 25 across. Is the definition "verge"?

For 5 down I meant to say has the first letter of a solution for "made progress" been moved to the back?
