My first reply was a bit confusing. 'Wigs' was a clue to 28 down; 'expression' is the definition for 24 down. Hope this clears it up

27 - the Flash Gordon hint gives you the beginning and end of the word for "joining". The middle bit is a synonym for "badger" but heartless (not the usual crossword meaning of heartless - think cards).

Got it - thanks Tintin and apologies, Sircrispin, for attributing your reply to tintin - you can't see the replies when replying ... in 27 I was trying to put the merciless one at the beginning because that gave the word for joining I was first working with - which wouldn't fit the crossers. Now just got to ensure there's a change in every answer....

I guessed that might be the case on the way to the shops - word ending in 'ling'? Easily done with this kind of puzzle. I 26-downed my answer to 18ac to give a kitchen gadget, turning 9d, which should have been one of the FOsI, into an impossibility. Got it now. Doh.

Nearly finished, but stuck on 25ac and 22d, so any nudges appreciated (hints to these given above haven't really helped).

Also - do I need a knowledge of Welsh footballers for 15ac? If so, I'm sunk. Perhaps you could confirm that T?T? is correct for that one, though?

cmk. A knowledge of Welsh footballers would help but he is their manager I believe and T-T- is right. I was stuck on 22d until just now and when you get it you will think we were 22d for not getting it earlier!
