Nearly there ... I have the change-words but stuck on 22 24 25 27 and 28. Anyone ahead of me?

Hi Prospero, I'm stuck on a couple of the same, but 24a shortened form of Margaret's, 24d def is expression (then needs 3d). 27A def is joining. 28 think 'wigs'!

22. The words before the comma are the word-play.
25. Double definition.
I'm stuck on completely different ones! Hints would be appreciated for 1, 6, 10, 11, 17 and 29.

thanks Tintin and Sircrispin - have them all now, though was sure of 27 but still can't parse it … I think 11 must have the usual 5-letter synonym for hen preceded by what - if that's right I still don't get the metal band, though I see there is something of that name on google … being a bit m'luddish here, I know. Was stuck on 24 and 28 because I had the changed letters, from the crossers - that does make it difficult ….

17 - word for john, then glenn's chief (should be leader) then was in charge. 29 - definition is first word.

27... Flash Gordon should put your mind to rest

well, sirc, that was the word I was working on for an hour but I can't accommodate the 5th and 6th letters - on top of which tintin's hints of wigs and expression take me to a different word for joining - but I can't parse that either ... with your wordl I can't make 24d fit
