Just managed to complete this puzzle. It is certainly more of a logic puzzle than a maths puzzle, and I found it quite ingenious. My solution took only half an hour or so after had found the solution to the bloody snail - so Demeter, if you are still struggling you can E-mail me if you like - I don't want to post the solution for fear of interlopers from you know where!!

Finished, but without total satisfaction. One reason has already been mentioned: how reference to time travel hints that the puzzle comes from the future (it doesn't, in my solution). The other is the clue at 1 across, that sort-of implies that the 20th century is over (again, not so, according to me). It just doesn't seem up to the usual standard of neatness of the Sage of Kaliningrad.

Thanks buzzb, and thanks gitto for the email offer.

I may take you up on that later, but for now I'll soldier on.

I was certainly worried about time travel and that the puzzle could have been set at some future time when you could get married at 11. However, I am depressed to see that the reference to Nobel Prize winners refers to the number up to the date of setting. That is now what it says, and, if you travel in time, you could presumably find out even in 1964 how many such Laureates there would be.

So I think I will do the CAM crossword instead. I really cannot be bothered with something where I have to cheat (eg by finding out the two things mentioned above) in order to tackle.

Finally sorted out my error (carelessly missing out on some possible prime factors of the 14D bank code).

I don't really understand why the clue to 13d compares the number of factors to those of 2d. I don't see that the information helps with getting either answer, and I simply found it a distraction.
