Novice - I suggest you Google legends about the place. The act shouldn't be hard to find using the gaps. But I am also struggling to fit in the name of the perpetrator. Any suggestions welcome...

if you have a Red Bradfords dctionary the 5 letter "gets" and the 3 letter "tax" are both in it. also the synonym for challenge...starts G

And when I say linked I mean that in more ways than one as you will see when you find it ....

I had entered 20 wrong.
I had 13.I don't know why I put it down.

For 5 I have all but the first letter now.

The perpetrator is anti-clockwise in the north west quadrant. Some sources give it as 6-6,4 (e.g. Chambers), others as 6,6,4.

Absolutely nothing is leaping out of the grid for me. Any vague hint as to where I might see the product would be appreciated. I take it we are looking for things in squares still?
