Bazotto - your first 4 rows are correct. You've missed out row 5 (I agree with Dylan) and the first letter in row 6 should be an i.

IGHEEL but the I / L difference doesn't affect the perp, who lurks nearby

Starts with a 3 letter term beginning p for comprehensive I'd never come across as that.

Then think of a very famous religious book, take the first letter off, marks is m

Too many of you to thank for some helpful hints on here. I now have a completed grid and have identified the three features. Am I right to think that all 48 cells are to be highlighted in the same colour (an obvious colour is suggested by one of the features) ? I am trying not to overthink!
