I never know which trees are coniferous, so I didn't notice anything! As the definition in Chambers says 'discolouration in coniferous wood', 'pine marker' works fine (if pines are conifers!).

I have some extra letters and they give me a structure like Sears high rise in Chicago.

I have three extras in 20a, 10d and 22d. Is that correct?

I'm not sure of 'the Sears high rise' - does that have what's mentioned at the end of the quote? Yes, your extras are fine.

Sunray, I meant to add - the theme is very British. I think it's something we all heard about, knew about, in childhood.
