There may be an extra letter in the wordplay OR an extra word in the clue:
34a Expression of doubt returning jam (3)
33a African people present sceptre (6) ?E?ER?

where's the extra in these?
17a Moore's last works covering Leo's first stars....think the answer is ETOILES (le ..leos first 2 ?)
35a Man follows poles on drift vehicle ...looks like snocar but can't find a defn anywhere....oscar would be the man ? or could it be snocat , but then where is the man?

Hi Bunty,

I parsed these like this:

34a E (last of Moore) TOILS round Eo's first - so L is extra
35a Man - cat follows SN o(n) - so N is extra

34 Just an expression of doubt . The 'jam' would be four letters, it's not's the conserve type of jam.

33 Herero, African people, Here is the 'present', the rest is...

17 E from Moore, Toils, works +Le, Leo's first two (you missed that word!) - so we have an extra L.

Scarlett, I think Blue = dirty and Rot = nearly round, Rota being listed under 'round' in Bradford's.

Scarlett, Chambers gives 'round' under 'Rota' so that seems to work. (My parsing can be a bit awry at times!)
