You need to change all occurrences of R (hand) for L (Hand) in the grid. This still makes real words wherever it occurs.

Yes I’ve done that, and it neatly produces 2 words from the 3-line theme, but I can’t make that help with REWORKS (WORKERS?), DISCRETION (DIRECTIONS?), PROTEINS (POINTERS?), or SNIGGLE (NIGGLES?),

Ebenezer - they are all alternatives for hands. Sniggle def. 3 in Chambers is small cramped handwriting.

Having initially entered a wrong answer, I am now having difficulty re-arranging placement. If it’s not asking too much, could someone tell me which column 12D ( Founder etc.) is in ? I am presuming 3 Down is in column 2, but that throws my placement of 33A (Property Registers) and 36A (German Lord), which I had originally put in the same line.,(Row 7),
I’d be very grateful for any help. Thanks.

12dn stays where it is in column 15. 3dn (the other 10-letter down clue, initially in column 4) goes to column 18, on the extreme right of the grid. 36ac is in row 7 but 33ac is in row 6.

Samovar, I see that I’ve given you more information than you asked for. Just to be clear, in the original grid 12dn is in column 15 and 3dn is in column 4.

Wintonian, forgot to add that after your help, it turned out that what I thought was my original mistake, wasn't a mistake at all ...what a relief !

I've completed the grid and instructions save for one thing, that being the final "item" (9th). I assumed an 11 letter word beginning with "r", which is plural.

Is this correct? If so, does the shading involve two rows?

btw, I noticed 27d has a connection (5 of the 6 letters). Is this just an amusing coincidence...?
