I always have to look carefully at clues like 19. I assume the answer is HIP and not HOP?

Definitely HIP

Hobble = HOP (in the sense of the verb LIMP)

'then one replaces ball' is wordplay instructing us to replace a O with an I

resulting in 'Joint' = HIP

The hidden name is also (not coincidentally) the fictional creator of the world's first musical OMELETTE: https://www.lyricsondemand.com/soundtracks/s/somethingrottenlyrics/somethingrottenmakeanomelettelyrics.html

Thanks both of you. It’s too easy to get these types of clue the wrong way round.
I don’t like the 3 letter words with one unchecked letter. Seems unfair.
