OK. Full grid. Thematic shape. Person's name. Need an earlier work made from 19 letters, 9 of which are each a choice of two. With the letters I have it has to be an anagram but I'm at a loss. The name was prolific! Can I have an obscure pointer please to put me out of my misery? Year of work would probably do it.

Thanks!

I have to say that I didn't actually attempt the earlier work. I imagine that they are listed somewhere.

Are you sure that your interpretation of the preamble is correct?

I though it meant take all 10 of the extra letters in those clues where a letter is removed from the solution plus the 18 letters being the first and last letters of the 9 words.

So you have an anagram of 28 letters?

And your interpretation of the preamble is correct. A 19 letter anagram, of which 9 are "first or last", and 10 are known

I thought I had completed the grid correctly, and I have the quote and the two works. But when it comes to the diagonal name I have an "a" for the third letter of the first name where it should be an "r". Have I made a mistake with 7 Down, or is it only the surname which is shown ?
If anyone is passing by I'd be most grateful for any help.
Thanks.
