Have heard of Quilter and will now have to check him out.

Back to the Ps and Fs, No. 24 (the last) is perhaps my favorite. The end of the fugue is positively orgasmic; I often think about having a cigarette afterward, although I've never smoked.

Thanks for the link to the 24th, aristo.

I'm not sure if I like it - it seems a bit bombastic in places (I'm not an expert, but I;m finding difficult to recognise the last part as a fugue, at least as I know one).

Am i right in thinking that he wrote them as a sort of hommage to Bach's 48?

Congrats BBM2, a good clue.
Thanks Pigale for the mention. It stops me from getting too disheartened!
Thanks for hosting Chris and for the beautiful piece of music.

Homage to Bach indeed. And no, not what you'd call pure counterpoint; No. 20, for example, comes closer to that (and is exquisite), but even there he takes liberties. Regarding the bombast, it's something I normally abhor, but this effusion is steeped in greatness.

Yes, I know. I'm not as provincial as I might appear. Again...:).

I never considered you to be "provincial", aristo!
