Hi jigjag/Malone I was very happy and satisfied with this puzzle after being in despair at the last three offerings. I was almost on the pointof giving up on EV and looking around for similar, but less obtuse, puzzles (but not the Sun coffee break!). Thank you Chalicea for restoring my faith in EV.

Thanks, Bigf - it's good that we all have different tastes! I was disappointed with this EV as it was on the simple side, the theme was easily spotted and then all that was left was to slot in various thematic bits. Still, I found this week's Inquisitor, often a joy, far too difficult!

After last week's i welcomed this one too, especially as IQ is a toughie this week

Most enjoyed reading this thread as i was feeling quite pleased to have done an EV in under an hour with one exception: the 12a mentioned - Capital half condemned to exile (4) for which I too have BA?I but haven't managed to twig the missing letter. Gtfl a nudge/hint, please. Tks v much

IQ though a real achievement by the setter was no fun at all. A balance between ingenuity, enjoyment and difficulty is the Holy Grail!

A lot of solvers have mentioned IQ. Whats it in?

IQ is in the i newspaper ...IQ - Inquisitor is on Saturdays ... it is similar standard to EV
