Kirky - Another word for 'quite' minus 'hero' (losing a letter in the process) plus H and add another word for 'some'. Definition is 'root'.

The extra letter in 12a is an F. Definition is 'part of a sentence' I have to admit that I have the answer but I can't parse it!

I'm stuck on only one: I have B?S?E? for 10a. Even with the alternative spelling alluded to earlier I still am at a loss with this one...

Gazzar, 10 A is a very exotic word (well, to me) for 'vigilantes' . I haven't parsed it fully, but I think the H is the additional letter .

I've just spotted that I also have 30d to finish. I have only the first letter blank. I know the Y is extra.

30 D was another new word to me!
