I'm on a train with limited WiFi but hopefully someone can give me a hint as to why 1d is what it is. Really enjoying the puzzle compared to previous weeks. But parsing some of these is tough.

I think I've got it now. I've solved a few and noticed the common element. Just a lot still to do before Beck at 9.00pm.

Rocky7 1d wordplay : school subject is PE ; 5 letters for 'because' + the extra letter.

I’m doing this on my phone so didn’t know there was a key to this puzzle, would someone mind getting me up to speed? I’ve only got one answer which is 12a which I think is axis of evil based on 5-1 (vi) but probably wildly wrong

What a brilliant crossword. I only have 13ac to complete and can’t work out where the extra letter should be. Am I missing something obvious?

Just to let you know I actually finished. Understanding the instructions and getting the special letter really helped. Though there are some answers I can't quite parse.
But Beck has finished, and I can go to bed satisfied.
