When I saw the special instructions, I nearly decided not to bother, but I'm glad I did, as it was fun and not as difficult as it looked like it was going to be.

Why "South African"? It seems totally superfluous.

1d your answer without the last letter B ..instead with a missing S would be school subject?

20d Answer relates to people from the Cape district of South Africa

No... ignore that one...doesn't fit with 9a
