Hi Sudokulover - It's a pity this was your first Mephisto - not much fun to be had there.

I am finding the "cryptic" parts of the clues somewhat strange to say the least!

This particular setter is very bad. A lot of the time I don't get his meaning at all. He's a fairly new setter for this particular xword - my heart sinks when I see his name at the top.
