Another fairly easy month, at least initially, although the top right-hand corner took a bit of sorting out. The consistent formula is easily worked out too. But can anybody give any hints as to how you decide what these nine new letters have in common? I assume the instructions refer to the nine letters that replace each pair of clashing letters.

You have done well, Pendragon. I have still to sort out some of NE & SW corners.
I would welcome a boot forward on (e.g.) 19d - is the definition 'wed'?

Well done, yes.

I completely overlooked the "consistent formula" bit of the preamble. I'll look at it again, but I completed the puzzle without too many problems anyway. The 9 replacement letters are all initial letters. The fact that you've got a single square bang in the middle makes is a big clue.

Have it almost complete and can make a connection with the 8 letters I have but rather stuck on 13 down and 15 across which should give me the new ninth letter at 13 or 16 I think. Nudge welcome.

As soon as I ask for a nudge the grey cells function and I get the answer? Being stumped helped!

Hmm, I have a clash at the junction of 9ac and 7dn. Am I wrong?

You're right. It's one of those that needs to be resolved. I'm struggling to see the "consistent formula" referred to in the preamble, but I don't think it matters too much.

...and at 20 and 16.

I think it does matter because there is a choice at 12.
