I've ground to a halt with 2 clues remaining: 7A - I have: -a-t-e-n; 15A - I have: e-t-u-. Can anybody tell me firstly if these letters are correct, and secondly give me a nudge, or two, in the right direction......please?

7a The E is incorrect

15a Definition is an old word for student. Letters are correct.

Done now. Thanks especially to notrab. An ingenious slow burner of a puzzle with some interesting elements marred slightly by there being (as noted in several posts) two legitimate entries for 9ac.
I'd still like help with 2d. I've got the only answer possible from the definition but do not get the wordplay. Anyone?

Sid. My non-thematic answer parses by taking the intial letter from either one of two possible female first names (both contractions) leaving a Victorian painter.

Just stuck on 24d. Any help would be appreciated. I have s-e-. I can think of two words which could fit the second half of the clue but can't see the wordplay for either.
