Chambers reveals that there are also possible alternatives for 7a. Beginning with B makes for a very obscure word, however, so I've gone for the more common word here too.

Indeed there are two possibles for 9 Across, and both would work with what I think is the theme (based on 'residues'). If I'm right, that's not good. But only the common word solution to 7 would fit.

Sorry, I started this conversation, but I am only ever able to stay on the site for a short time once I log in before it corrupts Firefox and I have to go to default, run a clean-up cycle and start again. This has been happening for years. Does anyone else have this problem? Have I got the settings on this site or on Firefox wrong?

Having logged-in again, I may be absent from the site for a while...

Jings, crivvens and help ma boab! The penny (or should I say "See You, Jimmy") dropped while watching Neil Oliver talking about a dating system being used on material from the Ness of Brodgar site in Orkney. Yes, I know: this makes me at least doubly - and possibly triply - sad....
